Dr. Fanning will be performing at the Detroit International Jazz Festival on
Saturday, September 1 st, 2007, with the Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra
( wsgmusic.com). The SGJO is a 16-piece big band which performs
each
Wednesday night at Cliff Bells Jazz Club in downtown Detroit.
The festival
performance will take place at 2:15 P.M. at the
Amphitheater stage at Hart Plaza.
Dr. Fanning attended the Minnesota Music Technology Symposium
in Minneapolis
in August. Along with his colleague from University
Liggett School Bob Foster,
Rich spent four days exploring the latest
versions of music software SmartMusic,
Finale, Garage Band and
Band in a Box. Both Bob and Rich will be implementing
SmartMusic into the music curriculum at ULS beginning this academic year.
On Saturday, October 13, 2007, at 1:30 P.M. there will be a 90 th Birthday Celebration for trumpet Professor emeritus William Adam, at Yellowwood Lake, in Bloomington, IN. All students of Mr. Adam are invited to attend. Email Rich for additional information.
Dr. Fanning conducted the Gold Jazz Band at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in July, 2007. The band consisted of 16 talented high school students from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and New Mexico. Rich also performed with the faculty jazz sextet and recorded live at Blue Lake’s public radio station. Additional information including audio from the recording and pictures from Blue Lake will be posted soon.
In April of 2007, Dr. Fanning attended the Trumpet Fest ’07, on the campus of the University of Central Florida in Orlando. The event was organized by UCF trumpet professor John Almeida, an old friend of Rich’s, and featured LA studio artist Wayne Bergeron, Chicago Symphony Orchestra trumpeter John Hagstrom and Yamaha trumpet designer Bob Malone.
